Don Mobley, CPA serves as Managing Member for Scott and Company LLC. Don’s primary responsibility is to oversee the strategic direction and management of the firm; he also works to develop the firm’s practice and provides service for some of the firm’s largest audit clients. In addition, Don serves as a member in the Scott and Company’s Assurance and Advisory Services practice, where he leads and develops the firm’s audit practice – advising clients on financial and business matters and recruiting, counseling, managing and developing professional staff.
Don was a select reviewer for several years, reviewing CAFRs under the GFOA’s certificate program and has assisted many of our clients in retaining the CAFR issued by the GFOA. Don has several years of experience working for two international accounting firms and while at one of them, Don served as the senior on the first-ever statewide audit of the State of South Carolina and continued to serve in various roles on that audit for many years. Don also served as a manager on the first-ever statewide GAAP and single audit of the State of South Carolina.
Don joined Scott and Company in 2002 and has since served major clients in real estate, hospitality, government, manufacturing, contracting, nonprofit and other industries. His clients have included Island Global Yachting, Charleston County, the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce, the South Carolina Budget and Control Board, the Horry County Department of Airports, the State of South Carolina, Bowater, the South Carolina Office of First Steps, Beneteau, and Columbia Metropolitan Airport, among others.
Don earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of South Carolina (USC) in 1982 and received his Master of Accountancy from USC in 1983.
Don’s public accounting career has spanned over 38 years. A member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (“AICPA”) and the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (“SCACPA”), Don is licensed to practice as a Certified Public Accountant in the State of South Carolina.
He currently is an active member of the Columbia Rotary Club and served on the board of directors and as treasurer for A Child’s Haven in Greenville, and was also a board member and chairman of the scholarship committee for the Friends of Accounting Department at the University of South Carolina, along with many other achievements.
