Employee Spotlight

  1. Where did you go to college?
    • University of South Carolina Aiken
  2. What year did you join Scott and Company?
    • I joined Scott and Company in August 2022
  3. Why did you choose Scott and Company?
    • I was initially interested in Scott and Company because it was a small-to-medium-sized CPA firm located in Columbia, SC.  I was eager to join Scott and Company after my interview with John Price and Bill West, members in the Tax and Advisory Services practice.  John and Bill were straight to the point and told me why they had been highly ranked in the Best Place to Work in South Carolina for multiple years.
  4. Give a summary of your work experience and tell about your current responsibilities at the firm, especially if you have a unique responsibility(s).
    • At the beginning of 2022, I worked as an experienced tax associate at a national tax preparation company.  After going through a busy tax season, I went to work for a government entity as a finance and administration intern.  My responsibilities at Scott and Company include completing various tax assignments and assisting the other tax accountants in preparing individual tax returns.
  5. What do you enjoy most about living in Columbia?
    • I am from Great Falls, a very small town in the piedmont section of South Carolina on the Catawba River.  So, one of the major things I like about Columbia is all the different places that one can go to.  I also appreciate the various job opportunities that are here.
  6. If you could go back in time, who would you invite to dinner?
    • If I could go back in time and invite someone to dinner, it would be Nikola Tesla.  In my opinion, he is one of the greatest minds and inventors ever to live.  I would love to discuss with him his fascination with the numbers 3,6,9 and learn how he would go about giving wireless energy to all of the modern-day inventions.
  7. What interesting fact would you most like your readers to know about you?
    • I would like my readers to know that I value hard work and ethics.  These are the two factors that I believe will make anyone successful in life.  I would like people to know that no matter how bad things may seem to be going, God has a plan and you just need to have faith and keep moving forward one step at a time.  One of my favorite quotes is from Franklin D. Roosevelt, “Never underestimate a man who overestimates himself.”
This picture marked an end of an episode and a beginning of a new season.  This was the day I graduated high school with my high school sweetheart and embarked on my journey of becoming an accountant.  This is a picture that truly says 1000 words.
